Born and raised in Nebraska, tried to leave, but here I am. I married my High School sweetheart and she's still my best friend. I have 3 grown kids, a granddaughter and another grandchild on the way. We have a dog named Alex, a cat named Muffie and a rat named Puppy. I served as a Conscientious Objector during Vietnam War, worked for 30 years in the mental health field. Now I work as a geek at a Community College. I feel odd. Odd is good.

Get a grip on Gonzales

It is clear to me that there is one and only one reason Bush is hanging on to Gonzales no matter how beat up he becomes. There is not one other person in the world who will protect W from a dam-burst of exposure to illegal activity in the White House. After watching Ashcroft and crew coming to appear as heroes in the face of the illegal wiretapping, I've got to believe that there are plenty of people in the Justice Department who would love to shed the stink of the Bush administration. Without Gonzales, Bush would have no choice but to find a replacement who would at least open the door to sanity. Could I really be thinking I'd be happy to bring back the likes of Ashcroft? I believe that without Gonzales, Rove will be toast, and eventually Cheney as well.

Congress... keep up the pressure.

Who's the biggest boob?

I've watched with amusement the dissections of Senator Biden's comments about Senator Obama. It seems that slips are given great weight in the considerations for public office. Senator Kerry's botched lines, even Senator Lott's goofy praise of Senator Strom Thurmond are other examples of the bipartisan sniping at public figures. Why is it, then, that we can survive the volumes of verbal spaghetti presented by George W. Bush? In both elections, the expectation that he was an intellectual boob led to the low bar of semantic survival.

Give it a rest. Let's get on with substantive issues. Even passing by the comical festival of fumbles offered by "W", there are plenty substantive reasons disdain of his policies and performance if not for outright impeachment. Give more heed to the ideas and intelligence of Biden and others who aren't blessed with the soul and tongue of a simpleton.

On the other hand, maybe with enough work, Joe Biden could get elected by attempting to match "W's" reputation as a nitwit. By lowing expectations, maybe we could all be relieved that Biden only makes two or three slips a day and therefore meets the George W Bush test for presidential ability.

Impeachment fantasy

The Bush administration's actions have been ruinous. I am a Liberal, so I've never been fond of Republicans. Every time one is elected, I imagine the ruin of life as we know it. Somehow it never turns out that badly... until this one.

What I'd like to see:

1. Cheney put on the witness stand in the Scooter Libby trial. He is caught lying or even telling publicly disturbing truths. This leads to follow-up investigations in congress which leads to impeachment.

2. While Bush is given his "chance" in Iraq, the situation worsening, he then becomes the continuing embarrassment to Republicans who run from him en-mass, leading investigations in his behavior and culpability.

3. Bush and Congress are stalled and at odds over appointment of a new vice president. In the mean time, the public outcry for Bush's removal becomes unavoidable, even in the face of:

4. President Pelosi.

Okay, so much for that fantasy.

Here's a point...

I'm strangely proud of Senator Hagel. It is apparent to me that he is on a personal mission that cares not about his political future, but only about his convictions. I wish he had been stronger earlier, but as a Liberal in Nebraska, I'll take what I can get.

I watch MSNBC news every evening. Chris Matthews, Keith Olbermann, and Joe Scarborough. I am please by their outspoken criticism of the war and demands for answers. I wish they would stop disparaging the "non-binding" resolution as not enough action. I think it is very important that they do it this way. Pass this and there will be another and another action to be taken, hopefully drawing more Republicans as they go. Giving the Republicans stepping stones to follow is more important at this point than rushing to drastic action that risks backlash and further partisanship.

I hate to see more death and destruction in Iraq and would like to see it end sooner, but the fact is nothing can be done quickly. Bush is too power-struck to stop and holds too many of the powers and controls. Remember how Clinton won in the struggle with Congress over expenditures and gained in popularity by doing so? The President can do that. Don't give Bush a chance to weasel the message away from his culpability. Allow the Republicans a chance to gather in opposition and real change will happen

Any comments?
